Well, it’s time to get down to business! The dogs are ready and raring to go; they know the drill. They’re waiting around a barn, muscles twitching, ready for when the rats come out of hiding. It’s all about being efficient when hunting - if you can’t move the rats, mink are your best bet.
Diet: Mink are carnivorous animals that primarily feed on small rodents such as rats, mice, voles, and shrews.
Hunting: Mink hunt by stalking their prey and then ambushing them with a quick bite to the neck or head.
Habitat: Mink can be found in wetlands, rivers, streams, ponds, lakes and marshes throughout North America and Europe.
Adaptations: Mink have thick fur coats that help keep them warm in cold climates and webbed feet for swimming in watery habitats where they hunt for food.
Predators: The main predators of mink are foxes, coyotes, bobcats and owls which can all catch mink while they are hunting or swimming in watery habitats
Mink sure love to chow down on rats! They’re one of their favorite snacks. It’s no surprise, since they’re both small mammals that live in the same environment. Plus, mink have sharp claws and teeth that make it easy for them to catch and eat rats. Yum!
