Well, it’s no secret that the Byzantines were heavily influenced by the Romans. In fact, you could say they copied them in many ways! From their architecture to their art and literature, the Byzantines adopted a lot of Roman culture. But did they really copy them? Let’s take a closer look and find out!
Why Did The Byzantines Copy The Romans? [Solved]
To keep the Empire on solid ground, they tried to put together all the laws from the past thousand years. That way, they could save ’em and look ’em up whenever needed. Pretty smart, huh?
Roman Empire: The Roman Empire was a powerful and influential civilization that existed from 27 BC to 476 AD. It was one of the most successful empires in history, and its legacy can still be seen today in many aspects of modern life.
Byzantine Empire: The Byzantine Empire was a continuation of the Roman Empire that lasted from 330 AD to 1453 AD. It was centered around Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) and had its own distinct culture, language, and religion.
Cultural Influence: The Byzantines were heavily influenced by the Romans, adopting their language, architecture, art, literature, law codes, military tactics and more. This allowed them to maintain much of the same culture as their predecessors while also developing their own unique identity over time.
Political Structure: The Byzantines adopted many aspects of the Roman political structure such as having an emperor at its head with absolute power over all other officials in government positions below him/her.
Religion: Christianity became the official religion of both empires but while Rome adopted Catholicism as its main faith; Constantinople embraced Eastern Orthodoxy which is still practiced today by millions around the world including Russia and Greece among others countries in Eastern Europe and Asia Minor regions .
The Byzantines definitely took a page out of the Romans’ book! They copied a lot of their culture, from architecture to art. You could say they were like two peas in a pod. Heck, even their language was similar! It’s no wonder why they were so close - after all, the Byzantines were basically just an extension of the Roman Empire.
