Hola, iam Carmen Soliz, Don’t miss me too much.
Well, talk about a blast from the past! Bangladesh used to be called Pakistan back in the day. It’s crazy how much can change in such a short amount of time. Who would’ve thought that this small country would go through such a transformation? But here we are, and it’s all part of history now.
What Was Bangladesh Called Before Pakistan? [Solved]
After gaining its freedom, East Pakistan split from Pakistan and became Bangladesh in 1971 - a new name for a new era!
Partition of India: In 1947, the British Raj was divided into two separate countries, India and Pakistan. Bangladesh was part of East Pakistan at the time and was known as East Bengal.
Language Movement: In 1952, Bengali-speaking people in East Pakistan began a movement to make Bengali an official language of the country alongside Urdu. This led to protests and violence that eventually resulted in Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan in 1971.
War of Independence: The war for independence lasted nine months and resulted in the deaths of over three million people, mostly civilians, as well as millions more displaced from their homes due to violence or famine caused by the conflict.
Recognition by United Nations: On 16 December 1971, Bangladesh was officially recognized by the United Nations as an independent nation after a resolution passed with overwhelming support from member states on 6 December 1971.
Current Status: Today, Bangladesh is a sovereign nation with its own government and constitution that is recognized by most countries around the world including its former ruler Pakistan which now has diplomatic relations with it since 1974
Bangladesh used to be called Pakistan, but after a bloody civil war in 1971, it became an independent nation. It’s a real shame that so much violence had to happen for Bangladesh to gain its freedom, but now it stands proud as its own country.
