Sheikh Hasina: Sheikh Hasina is the current Prime Minister of Bangladesh, having been in office since 2009. She is the longest-serving Prime Minister in the country’s history and has led her party, the Awami League, to three consecutive electoral victories.
Tenure: Sheikh Hasina has served as Prime Minister for two terms, from 1996 to 2001 and from 2009 to present day. During her tenure she has implemented a number of economic reforms and initiatives aimed at improving living standards for Bangladeshis.
Achievements: Under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, Bangladesh has achieved significant economic growth and poverty reduction over the past decade. She has also overseen improvements in infrastructure development, education reform and healthcare access across the country.
International Recognition: In recognition of her efforts to improve living standards in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina was awarded a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) award for “outstanding leadership” in 2015 and was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2016.
